I can’t believe the summer months are almost behind us! With just a few weeks left before school starts up again, I’ve been trying to squeeze in as many fun summer activities and items on our summer bucket list as possible! This week we played some water games and did this summer scavenger hunt. Next week it’s a camp themed week with this camping scavenger hunt and these camping games! As we get closer to school, I like to include more and more educational activities like this summer puzzle that will have kids searching for summer-related words! This printable worksheet is perfect to get little brains thinking while still letting them have fun doing it! This free summer word search is great for summer camps, doing at home, or even for classroom use at the beginning of the year (or end of the year before summer).
Two Summer Word Search Puzzles
I’ve created two different free printables – they both have the same summer word list – but one has a white background and one has a colored background. I know some people prefer white for printing purposes and others prefer colored for design purposes, so I’ve created both! When you download them at the bottom of this post, you’ll get both versions of the word search as well as an answer key for both summer word searches! The difficulty level of these word searches is easy to medium so probably best for younger or older kids, but not necessarily teens and adults. They’d still be fine for those ages, but they are not the hardest summer word puzzles you’ll find out there.
How to Use the Summer Word Search
This summer word search is a fun activity when you need something new to do on summer vacation! All you need to do is print out one per person and give it to them along with a writing utensil of some sort! Then see how quickly they can find all of the words in the word search – horizontal, vertical, and diagonal! The diagonal words can make this a bit of a challenging puzzle, but it shouldn’t be too tough! Once words are found, cross them out in the word bank at the bottom of the page to keep track! You can either use a pen and circle words or a highlighter and highlight them (highlighter is easier!). If you’re not sure where you use this, these would all be great times:
Road trip activitiesOn a rainy dayCompetition among the whole family (see who can finish it first) Fun summer activity for a summer or beach themed weekAt summer campLong car rides Any time you just need a little extra fun (or you need kids to be busy while you’re doing something else)
Expert Tips
Laminate this fun summer word search and use dry erase markers to cross things. Then instead of throwing away the word search, do it again later in the season or next year! You could even put these word search printables in a bucket with other summer activities for kids to pull out when they’re bored! Give kids simple hints like what row or column a word is in if they get stuck but still let them figure it out. You can also help them see that typically in word searches, there will be huge gaps that words haven’t been found in yet, and those are a great starting place to look!
